the music business has long been considered one of the fastest growing industries in the world and much of it has to do with its audience. music has the ability to change lives and in some circumstances, even save them. from huge household names like ‘twenty one pilots’ and ‘lana del rey’, to the kings of alternative ‘the 1975’, and to lesser-known artists such as natalie claro or milkk, songs leave their footprint wherever they go. because of this, i believe it is my responsibilty as an avid music-lover to share the importance of words set to music with as many people as possible.

2019 – I’m Making It My Year

Two thousand and nineteen.

Do those words send chills down your spine or is it just me? It might be due to the fact that this year is going to be one of the greatest and I’m going to make sure it stays that way. To start off, at this moment, I will be seeing three of my all-time favorite artists in concert over the next 341 days: Dean Lewis in March; The 1975 in May; and Dodie in September! I can’t believe I’m getting the chance to experience the sheer talent of these people IN PERSON and on top of that, I’m going to them with my best friends. Also, (August) 2019 marks the beginning of the end of high school and I could not be happier. School’s a hellhole, there’s no denying it, and getting out of this cramped, stuffy town will be freedom from the 18 years I will have spent stuck here. I will finally be able to pursue what my heart longs for and finally be able to mark my spot in the vast world of the music industry. My efforts from now until whenever are focused wholly on being accepted into Cur College’s music business program and taking my first steps towards creating the future I have dreamed of for years now! Nashville, Tennessee, I’m coming for you, and Belmont University, I will see you in 2020!

——-

There’s just this atmosphere that is created at concerts and it’s the best feeling in the entire world. The energy. The sounds. The knowing that at that moment you are surrounded by hundreds or thousands of people who have been impacted by music just as much as you have. It’s actually insane. That’s actually one of the motivations I have to be a part of the music world. I want to be able to spread that feeling and share the vibe of live music with every single person on this earth. I joined the Girls Behind The Rock Show group on Facebook and through that, I have reached out to several companies about joining their street team or interning with them! It’s felt amazing to start something that is going to have such a major impact on the rest of my life and my career, and it is such an amazing way to get my foot in the door. Not many adults expect teenagers my age (unfortunately) to reach out for information about ways to get involved, so if you are ever in search of internships or are curious about joining a cause, showing initiative is a very, very good thing to do. It shows your passion for something and that you are truly interested in it. So don’t be worried about emailing someone or doing your research, it will all pay off in the end. Promise!

discover weekly (4/21/2018)

this week’s song is pretty important because it comes from a band that was one of the reasons why i fell in love with the music scene. released on november 9th, ‘stupid’ by “internet sensation” milkk is a song of the century. ‘stupid’ is filled with chill synth-beats, background drums, and frontman pat kiloran’s heavenly voice (that’s not a weird thing to say… right?)

this song makes me want to just sit outside under the stars and be wrapped in someone’s arms while a cool wind blows around us. the lyrics are so incredibly raw, and the vulnerability in this almost made me cry the first time i listened to it. but it’s not just this song that has those qualities and i had a hard time picking one of milkk’s songs because all of them are absolutely unbelievable, and if you haven’t already, i highly suggest you give their music a spin!

søld øut: the beginning – an introduction

chances are if you’re reading this, music has left at least some sort of impact on your life. i know that’s true for me.

——————————

it’s incredibly rare for me to go a day without listening to music, often the same album on repeat, for hours on end. whether it be in the car, or in the shower, or while i’m drowning in homework, or i just need some peace, music surrounds me. it is the one constant i have in my life right now and because of that, it is so incredibly important to me. i wanted to start this webzine as a way for me to share the songs and bands and artists that have become a part of me with other people who love music just as much as i do, and i hope i am able to achieve that on a greater scale than i could ever anticipate.

before i really jump into this, i want to introduce myself a little more and explain the direction of this blog:

my name is amber and i’m from the great state of texas, more specifically just outside of the dallas area. my favorite things in life include live music (obvi!), traveling, big cities, my friends, sunflowers, netflix, hipster coffee, and my cat. some of my most-played artists are twenty one pilots, judah and the lion, lemaitre, jon bellion, lauren daigle, and the 1975. lastly, after i graduate high school in about a year and a half, i am hoping to study music business with an emphasis on international mb at belmont university in nashville, tn.

my plan for søld øut is to publish a post every week with new artists/songs i discovered over the last seven days, kinda like spotify’s “release radar”; write reviews for newly released albums; talk about concerts i’ve attended or ones i’m about to attend; and (fingers crossed for the near future) have some interviews with small bands.
